A local safety net for the folders that matter.

Your files shouldn't depend on an account someone else can suspend. Guard creates point-in-time snapshots of selected folders on a drive you control. Restore a complete snapshot or individual files, and re-check that the stored data still matches what was captured.

Captures happen only when you ask: no cloud account, no background service, no subscription. If a copy of your data exists, it's because you made one, and it answers to you.

The Guard app on Windows: a sidebar of protected folders (Documents, Family Photos, Client Work, Tax Records, Scanned Receipts, Recipes, Project Archive), each with a status dot and the date of its last snapshot, and for the selected Family Photos folder its protection status, an archive location on a separate drive, a note that all 1,284 items were verified intact, and a month of snapshot history carrying Captured and Verified health badges, above Capture snapshot now, Restore files and Verify actions.

What Guard does

Capture, restore, verify. That's the whole idea.

Capture a snapshot

Take a point-in-time record of a folder whenever you like. Guard stores only what changed since the last one, so repeat captures are fast and small.

Restore what you need

Bring back a whole snapshot or pick individual files from a tree. Guard restores into a separate folder by default, so your current files are never overwritten.

Verify the archive

Run Verify and Guard re-reads the stored snapshot, checking it against what was recorded at capture. A health badge shows the result: Verified, Captured, Warning, or Failed.

Store it on a drive you control

Snapshots live in an archive on a drive you choose - ideally a different physical drive from the folder it protects, so one failing disk can't take both.

How it works

From folder to safety net in four steps.

  1. Choose folders. Select the folders that hold the files you want Guard to protect, and give each one a friendly name.
  2. Choose an archive location. Store the archive on a drive or location you control: ideally a different physical drive from the folders you're protecting.
  3. Capture. Create a snapshot whenever you want a recovery point. Guard stores only what changed, so repeat captures stay small.
  4. Restore or verify. Browse earlier snapshots, restore a whole snapshot or individual files, or run Verify to re-check that stored data still matches what was captured.

When to use it

When Guard is useful.

Guard captures when you ask it to, so it's at its best for the moments you can see coming - a deliberate checkpoint you can return to later.

  • Before reorganizing a large photo or document collection.
  • Before making risky changes to a project folder.
  • After finishing an important stage of work.
  • Before replacing, renaming, or heavily editing a group of files.
  • Whenever a named checkpoint would be useful to have later.

Because captures are deliberate, Guard isn't a hands-off safety net for the times you forget. For continuous, automatic protection it pairs well with a separate scheduled backup - Guard is the one you reach for on purpose.

What Guard is not

Not a cloud backup service.

Guard is intentionally focused. It protects the folders you choose through deliberate local snapshots; it does not try to be a complete backup suite.

  • Not cloud storage or online backup.
  • Not a full disk-image or system-recovery tool.
  • Not a background service that runs on its own.
  • Not a subscription, and no account required.

Guard does not capture snapshots automatically, and it does not replace scheduled backup where automatic protection is required. It's designed for deliberate checkpoints that you choose to create, so it works best alongside an independent backup of anything you can't afford to lose.

Privacy and ownership

Your files stay yours.

Your folders and Guard archives stay on storage you choose. Guard does not require an account, a cloud service, or a subscription, and it never uploads your files or archive contents to Albedo One. It doesn't reach the internet on its own. Online actions, like a manual check for updates, happen only when you ask.
